My passion for nature and the outdoors started at an early age. My parents purchased coffee table books from Readers Digest on National Parks and the like, and I always enjoyed looking at the images from across this great and beautiful country.
So the seed was planted early in life for my love of photography, but it wasn't until my late 20's, when I lived in northern California, north of Mt Shasta, that I bought my first camera, a Pentax K1000.I started taking road trips throughout Siskiyou County, Crater Lake, Yosemite, and Oregon & California Coast. The majesty of
Mt Shasta was always captivating, and a short drive away, to catch her in all her splendor, different light and moods. This is also where I first started backpacking, in the Trinity Alps, a beautiful little gem of a wilderness in Northern California. For the most part, I have been self taught, through the Time-Life book series
on Photography. In 1987 I moved to Seattle WA., where I attended the Art Institute of Seattle for about a year, before I had to give it up. Primarily due to financial restraints, but also weighing in was the fact that the Art Institute was not geared towards nature or landscape photography, but more towards commercial or journalistic photography.
Although the first couple of semesters did layout the ground work for the fundamentals and discipline of photography, I certainly enjoyed the environment of the Institute, even made Honor student the second semester. All in all it was a great experience. Only wish I had the time and money to make the most of it. Since then
I have been doing extensive hiking throughout Western Washington, the Olympic Coast and Peninsula, and North Cascades. In 1989 made a road trip through Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks. More recently my road trips have led me to Southern Utah and Northern Arizona, where the photography is limitless. I have fallen in love
with this part of the country, and hope to move there someday. Update: In 2007 I moved to Spanish Fork, Utah, and began my truck driving career. Then in June of 2009, I moved to La Verkin Utah, which is only about 20 miles away from Zion National Park. 7/10/2010 Web site design by; John Schenk
